The Schleswig Collection is an independent and comprehensive collection of books and other media comprising more than 50,000 items and covering all aspects and time periods of the former Duchy of Schleswig – today the northern part of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) and Southern Jutland (Denmark).

The collection includes books, periodicals, booklets etc. about Schleswig in the area’s five languages and dialects – Danish, German, Frisian, South Jutlandic, low German – and in English.

Topics include history, art, linguistics and dialect research, social conditions, science and the environment and many more.

Fiction and children’s books from the Schleswig area are also richly represented in the collection.

As a special feature, the Schleswig Collection also has a large collection of historical books, with some of the volumes dating as far back as the sixteenth century.

The Schleswig Collection is used in many contexts – from leisure interests to academic research. In particular, historians and students of the region use the collection in preparing assignments and publications, just as it is an obvious place for genealogists with family relations in Schleswig to put their research into a broader historical context.
